This is a translation of the five precepts as taught in the system of Reiki. A precept is a code of practice. Usui taught them to support his students on their spiritual path of self-healing – they are the baseline to the complete system. These precepts are the teachings of Usui, the roots of what has become the system of Reiki.
Definition of precept (on-line dictionary):
A rule or principle prescribing a particular course of action or conduct.
Precepts have been used as guidelines for conduct for centuries in many spiritual and religious practices. So, now that you know what a precept is, let’s look at their usage. Interestingly the precepts, apart from being one of the five major elements of the system of Reiki, are also its foundation.
Without the precepts, the whole system would fall apart.
Each element and practice within the system of Reiki has at its base the precepts, and if we take away the base a complete and effective system will no longer exist.
Anger at others or oneself or the world creates serious blockages in one's energy. It is the most complex inner enemy.
Reiki is an excellent tool to remove anger blockages that have accumulated in the body over the years, but it cannot remove the residue of current anger which occurs daily.
Letting go of anger brings Peace into the Mind.
While anger deals with past and present events worry deals with future ones. Although worry is not always negative phenomena, endless worries may fill one's head, and each one bores a small hole in one's body and soul. While anger requires a focused Reiki treatment to remove obstacles, worry requires the energy to be spread throughout the entire body.
Letting go of worry brings healing into the Body.
Be grateful from your heart inward. The inner intention is the essential element in this principle. Simple things as thanks, forgiveness, smile, good words, gratitude can improve other's life and make them happy.
Being thankful brings Joy into the Spirit.
Support yourself and your family respectably, without harming others. Earn a respectable living, live a life of honour.
Working Honestly brings Abundance into the Soul.
Honour your parents, honour your teachers, honour your elders. Being Kind brings Love into the Will.
